Purpose
Use the Templates page to configure client-specific visual templates for Product and Customer output. The page lets you build the printable or label-style layout by adding areas to a canvas and defining what each area shows, how it is styled and how it is positioned.
Roles involved
- System administrator
- Label / print administrator
- Implementation / support team
Preconditions
- You need permission to edit Client profile.
- You should know whether you are configuring the Product template or the Customer template.
- Before editing the layout, confirm which data should appear in the printed output and what size the final output should have.
- If the template should show product attributes or custom fields, those fields must already exist in setup.
Navigation path
Client profile → Templates
Step-by-step procedure
- Open Client profile → Templates.
- Choose the template type at the top of the page:
- Product
- Customer
- Review the layout canvas shown on the left side of the page. If template dimensions are already configured, the page shows the Real size in millimeters.
- Click Add new area to create a new printable area.
- In the area editor window, define the visual styling of the area:
- Font
- Font size
- Font color
- Background color
- Bold
- Italic
- Text decoration
- Alignment
- Rotation (0°, 90°, 180°, 270°)
- Select the Area content value. The available options are loaded from the system and determine what kind of data the area will display.
- Depending on the selected content type, configure the related extra fields:
- Custom text when a fixed text area is used
- Barcode type when the area content is a barcode. The available barcode types on the page are:
- QR code
- EAN13 barcode
- Gs1128 barcode
- Code128 barcode
- Stretch for barcode rendering
- Image upload if the content type is an image
- Split price when the content is price-related
- Attribute and Prefix when the content is based on attributes, extra fields, custom fields or native fields
- If the content type uses custom fields, select the appropriate field from the list of template-enabled custom fields for the current template type.
- If the content type uses native fields, select the native field from the provided list.
- Save the area.
- Move and resize the saved area on the layout canvas as needed. The template stores position and size values for each area.
- Repeat the process until all required areas have been added.
- Use the layout action buttons on each area to review or edit existing areas. Delete an area when it is no longer needed.
- Click Save to save the area positions on the template layout.
- Use Cancel to leave the page without saving layout changes.
Required fields
- Template type (Product or Customer)
- Area content for each created area
- Font and Font size for each area
- Additional fields required by the chosen content type, such as:
- Custom text
- Barcode type
- Attribute
- Prefix
- Image
Validation rules
- Each area must have a valid Area content value.
- Font size should be numeric.
- If the content type requires a linked attribute or field, that selection must be made before saving the area.
- If the content type is barcode, the barcode type must be selected from the supported list.
- If the content type is image, a valid file must be uploaded.
- Area positions and sizes should fit within the visible canvas and the configured real size of the template.
Exceptions
- The available content options depend on the selected template type and on the system configuration.
- Custom field options appear only for fields marked as template-enabled.
- Attribute and native field lists differ between the Product and Customer template types.
- If the user does not have permission to edit retail labels, some controls in the area editor can appear disabled.
Common errors
- An area is saved without the correct content type, so the printed output shows the wrong value.
- A required attribute, custom field or native field is not selected, so the area prints blank.
- Areas overlap on the canvas and make the output unreadable.
- The wrong barcode type is selected for the expected scanning environment.
- Users change area formatting but forget to save the final area positions on the main page.
Troubleshooting
- If a field prints blank, review the Area content type first, then confirm that any linked attribute, custom field or native field was selected correctly.
- If a barcode does not scan correctly, test a different barcode type or review the Stretch option and area size.
- If layout changes are not visible, make sure both the area settings and the final area positions were saved.
- If the page does not allow editing, verify that the user has permission to write retail label / template settings.
- After major changes, test the output with one real product or one real customer before using the template in production.
Questions / Gaps
- The page clearly shows the template editor structure, but the exact printed destination that uses these templates should be confirmed in live use, because this depends on the wider tenant implementation.
- The full list of Area content values is loaded dynamically and is not fully visible from the static page structure alone, so the exact end-user option list should be confirmed directly in the tenant.
- It should be confirmed which output processes use the Product template and which use the Customer template in the final client setup.
